Beagle B.121 Pup G-AXCW near Menthorpe.
On 6th April 1973 this aircraft was being flown from Stapleford Tawney to Leeds-Bradford when encountered strong winds and eventually it ran out of fuel in the Selby area. The pilot made a forced landing at Menthorpe, in doing so he flew under some high tension cables, crashed through a hedge, crossed a road and passed through another hedge which damaged the undercarriage. It came to rest in a field next to the main Selby to Hull railway line. The pilot was uninjured and taken to Selby railway station to continue his journey by train. The aircraft was taken to Leeds-Bradford airfield for repair a few days later. The aircraft was owned by the Yorkshire Territorial Flying Group.
