Piper PA.22 Tri-Pacer G-APVA near Crosland Moor airfield.
On 20th September 1973 this aircraft was taking off from Crosland Moor airfield when it suffered engine failure soon after becoming airborne. The aircraft clipped a wall while force landing in a field at the junction of Black Lane and Nopper Road, near South Crosfield. The undercarriage was torn off and the aircraft came to rest badly damaged. Both occupants were local men and were slightly injured. The aircraft was owned by Mr David Michael Whitham, of "The Airfield", Crosland Heath, Huddersfield who almost certainly based the aircraft at Crosland Moor airfield as he ran it.
Pilot - Mr Lewis Geoffrey Earnshaw.
