Sokol Aero 145 G-ASTU at Sherburn in Elmet airfield.

While in the air on 16th August 1971 the pilot of this aircraft sensed a smell of petrol in the cabin in the Sherburn area so elected to make an immediate landing at Sherburn in Elmet airfield. The cabin filled with dense smoke before the landed. The pilot opted for the nearest runway, which was a short one, and had to raise the undercarriage to avoid over running. The aircraft cabin damaged by fire and it was later written off by the insurance company.

Pilot - Name unknown.

The aircraft was registered to Mr Norman Reddihough, of Bradford, who based it at Leeds-Bradford airfield. It appears to have been used by the Yorkshire Aeroplane Club.
