Auster J/5P G-AOHZ at Marton, East Yorkshire.

On 5th May 1971 this aircraft was flown on a round trip, beginning and landing on a farm airstrip at Hill Farm, Marton with a pilot and two passengers on board. The pilot lived at the farm and the two passengers, who were part-owners in the aircraft, also lived locally. While taxying after landing a fire broke out in the cockpit. The three men attempted to fight the fire with hand held extinguishers before fire engines from Hull and Preston arrived along with a helicopter from Leconfield.

Pilot - Mr Harold Swift.

Passenger - Mr Terence Arthur Rawson.

Passenger - Mr John Hartley.

According to the registration history of this aircraft they (and Mr Derek Athol Taylor) registered ownership of this aircraft on 8th July 1971 with it being registered to Mr Ralph Williams, of Rochdale, Lancashire prior to this. Clearly it was in their possesion in East Yorkshire before the registration took place. The aircraft was stored at the farm for some time until the wreck was taken to Ringway where it was planned to combined it with G-APKI that had crashed at Perranporth in May 1971.
