Jet Provost T.5 XW297 near Kiplingcotes.
On 17th September 1970 this No.1 Flying Training School aircraft took off from Linton on Ouse airfield at around 09.15hrs with the pilot briefed to undertake a training flight that involved formation flying. While undertaking an aerobatics part of the flight over the Yorkshire Wolds the aircraft got into an uncontrollable spin so the student pilot ejected. He landed ina field near Kiplingcotes Farm, a mile north of the hamlet. The aircraft crashed nearby and was destroyed. Mr Geoff Drysdale, an antique dealer from Grannies Attic, Kiplingcotes Station was first on the scene and helped the pilot to his car. A helicopter from Leconfield then landed beside the crashed aircraft as he began to drive the pilot to his home so he returned to the helicopter and the pilot was then transferred to Leconfield in the helicopter.
Pilot - F/O C G Wilkin RAF (probably F/O Christopher Geoffrey Wilkin RAF (4335729)).
