Jet Provost T.4 XP576 near Leeming.
On 16th March 1970 this No.3 Flying Training School aircraft had a fire warning light activate on the approach to land at Leeming airfield so pilot ejected. The aircraft went on to crash near the bank of the River Swale just over a mile from the airfield at 16.00hrs.

Jet Provost XP576 was built to Contract KC/E/041 by Hunting Aircraft Ltd. at Luton and was first test flown on 27th February 1962. It was deady, awaiting collection on 22nd March 1962 and four days later it was taken on charge by No.3 Flying Training School at Leeming where it carried the code "-42". On 8th January 1965 it went to the Ministry of Aviation at the B.A.C. plant at Luton for investigation and repair to cracks in the mainplane. On 21st January 1965 it was returned to No.3 F.T.S. charge. On 16th March 1970 it crashed near Leeming. Cat.5S damage was the damage assessment and it was struck off charge.
