F-100 Super Sabre 55-2836 near Sherburn in Elmet.

Very little about this incident is known.

On Tuesday, 7th October 1969 this aircraft was being flown over the Selby when the pilot, who was flying solo, ejected roughly between Church Fenton and Sherburn in Elmet. The aircraft went on to crash on a disused part of Sherburn in Elmet airfield makinga 25 feet deep hole. The pilot landed nearby. The aircraft was part of the 494th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 48th Tactical Fighter Wing, USAF, based at Lakenheath, Suffolk. The incident is briefly mentioned in the RAF Church Fenton airfield's record book which names the pilot as below. I have been unable to find anything else about the incident.
