Slingsby T.41 Skylark BGA.779 at Upper Midhope.

On Easter Sunday, 14th April 1968 this glider was launched from Doncaster Airport. Two hours later the pilot attempted to land the glider near Upper Midhope, but crashed into a stone wall at some speed. The glider had narrowly missed a bungalow and row of cottages. The pilot was freed from the cockpit by ambulance men who were attending to a road accident nearby and was taken to Sheffield Royal Infirmary but was found to have died of his injuries either in the ambulance during the journey or shortly after arrival. The pilot was a member of the Doncaster Gliding Club. He had six children, his eldest child, an eleven year old son had gone to Doncaster to watch his father's launch.

Pilot - Mr Robert Tyrman Riley, aged 40, of Mexborough, South Yorkshire. Burial location unknown.
