Schleicher K.7 GSA.343 at Dishforth airfield.
On 3rd December 1967 this glider was to have been given an aerotow launch at Dishforth airfield with two pilots on board. The tug aircraft did not climb away as expected as it left the ground and as a result the glider also did not rise as expected. The tug pilot then released the glider to gain the height to clear the airfield boundary and the A1 road at the western side of the airfield. At the time of release, the glider was heading toward the A1 road at low height and to avoid flying at the road the pilot made a turn, the glider lost height and it's wing struck the ground which caused it to cartwheel but came to rest upright. The nose was slightly damaged and the bent metal parts trapped the pilot/passenger in the front seat. The pilot flying the glider was seated in the rear seat and escaped injury. The glider was part of the RAF Gliding & Soaring Association.
