Vampire T.11 WZ459 at Church Fenton airfield.

Stated in Colin Cummings' book "Lost to Service" to have been on 15th June 1966 the pilot of this No.7 Flying Training School aircraft abandoned taking off at Church Fenton airfield but could not then stop the aircraft on the remaining length of runway. The aircraft overshot the airfield and was badly damaged. The reason why the pilot was attempting to abandon the take off is not known.

Pilot - Name unknown.

Yorkshire Air News September 1966 gives information that this aircraft was wrecked at Holme (on Spalding Moor) on 28th February 1966 when the undercarriage collapsed and later returned in a damaged state to Church Fenton. I would make two suggestions. Either it was repaired once back at Church Fenton and then crashed again soon after, or the one and only crash occurred on 28th February 1966 and it was later struck off charge on 15th June 1966.
