Vulcan B.2A XH559 damaged in the air, landed at Finningley airfield.
On 27th May 1965 this No.230 Operational Conversion Unit aircraft suffered a birdstrike on the No.3 engine on take off from Finningley airfield at 11.10hrs. This caused immediate damage to the the No.3 engine and pieces of it were dislodged and then sucked into the No.4 engine. A fire broke out in the air that was extinguished and the pilot then landed the aircraft at 11.15hrs (almost certainly at Finningley where the unit was based).
