DH.82A Tiger Moth G-ANEJ at Owstwick.

On 15th May 1965 this aircraft took off from Pocklington airfield with the pilot and passenger intending on landing near the passenger's home at Burton Pidsea where they had planned to have tea. They landed in a field at Kenby Farm, Owstwick and when the aircraft was taxying across the field the long grass it was attempting to move through wound around the axles. The grass caused the wheels to lock up and the aircraft then slowly tipped on to it's nose then overturned. One of the main wing struts was broken, the rudder was squashed and the propeller broken. Both men were wearing harnesses and were unhurt.

The aircraft was owned by Albert Neville Medforth, of Ward Avenue, Bilton, Hull where he also his own airstrip. He was a founder member of the East Yorkshire Aero Company that attempted to set up an aerodrome at Paull.

Pilot - Mr William Kenneth Charles.

Passenger - Mr John Lloyd Corlyon.

William "Ken" Charles was twenty five years old when this incident occurred in 1965. He was killed on 19th August 1972 when Tipsy Nipper G-AVKT crashed at Burton Constable during a Barnstormers Air Display at the nearby hall. By that time he was living at North Ferriby and was one of the co-owners Trustees of the Assets of the All Saints Flying Group (who owned the Nipper). He was also a founder member of the Hull Aero Club.
