Whirlwind HAR.10 XJ724 damaged at Carnaby airfield, landed at Leconfield airfield.

On 21st April 1964 this B-Flight 228 Squadron aircraft took off from Leconfield airfield at 10.30hrs to carry out a general handling training exercise. While praticing a vertical auto rotation at the disused Carnaby airfield the aircraft struck the ground. The pilot regained flight and flew back to Leconfield, landing at 11.30hrs.

Passenger - Name unknown.


Geoffrey Stafford died on 18th December 1969 of an illness at Ely, Cambridgeshire. He was commanding officer of Cambridge University Air Squadron at the time and was cremated at Cambridge.
