Jet Provost T.3 XN466 at Church Fenton airfield.
On 29th January 1963 flying training was undertake at Church Fenton airfield involving several aircraft of No.7 Flying Training School. Jet Provost XN466 was making an approach to land when the pilot was ordered to fly an overshoot owing to Jet Provost XM476 having just landed and was blocking the runway. The pilot of XN466 did not heed the warning and went on to land. The result was the XN466 landed on top of XM476. Both aircraft skidded across the runway locked together, the undercarriage of XM476 collapsed and the two aircraft came to rest on the edge of the runway with XN466 on top of XM476. Both aircraft were badly damaged. The three aircrew involved were all injured but their names are not known. I would speculate that XM476 had a pupil with an instructor in it while XN466 was being flown solo by a pupil pilot.
Pupil Pilot - Name unknown. Injured.
The cockpit section of XN466 was converted into a static training exhibit and still exists at No.184 ATC, Manchester.
