Jet Provost T.3 XM416 at Church Fenton airfield.

The published history to Jet Provost XM416 states that on 24th May 1963 sustained repairable Cat.3R damage whilst in the care of No.7 Flying Training School who were based at Church Fenton at the time. Whether this relates to a flying accident or incident, or damage found during an inspection is not yet clear.

Jet Provost XM416 was built to contract 6/ACFT/14157 by Hunting Aircraft Ltd. at Luton and was awaiting collection on 26th February 1960. On 1st March 1960 it went to 27 MU at Shawbury and on 22nd April 1960 it was taken on charge by No.2 Flying Training School at Syerston. On 18th June 1962 it was transferred to No.7 Flying Training School at Church Fenton. On 24th May 1963 a Cat.3R damage assessment was recorded against it but what occurred is not yet clear. It would have been repaired on site and returned to No.7 F.T.S. charge. On 28th July 1966 it transferred to No.2 Flying Training School at Syerston. On 15th September 1966 it transferred to No.6 Flying Training School at Acklington then on 5th December 1967 it was transferred back to No.3 Flying Training School at Leeming. On 24th October 1969 it went to 27 MU at Shawbury. It later went back to No.3 Flying Training School at Leeming but no date is given in the history. In May 1970 it went back to 27 MU at Shawbury then on 2nd February 1972 it went to 5 MU at Kemble. On 19th January 1976 it was declared a non-effective airframe. It was struck off charge in 1978 but the fuselage went to JATE at Spennybridge Military firing range.
