Meteor T.7 WA709 at Holme on Spalding Moor airfield.
This aircraft was being operated by the Aeroplane and Armament Experimental Establishment who were based at Boscombe Down. On 22nd November 1963 it was making a dusk landing at Holme on Spalding Moor airfield when it undershot the concrete by just ten yards with the air brakes extended. When it crossed the runway lip the step caused damage to the undercarriage which then collapsed. The aircraft then slid along the runway at high speed, as it was carrying a ventral fuel tank which had fuel in it, this then became damaged and caught fire.
Pilot - Lt Henry William Allan Deacon RN (417267).
