Jet Provost XN643 was built to contract KC/E/031 by Hunting Percival Ltd. at Luton and was awaiting collection on 1st February 1962. It was initially taken on charge by No.3 Flying Training School at Leeming on 7th February 1962. On 4th September 1962 it was slightly damaged in a collision, Cat.3R damage was the initial damage assessment but on 6th September 1962 this was upgraded to Re.Cat.4R and it was taken to Hunting Percival Aircraft Ltd. at Luton for a repair in works. Once servicable, on 15th March 1963 it was taken on charge by the Central Flying School at Little Rissington. On 30th July 1963 it was transferred back to No.3 Flying Training School at Leeming. Between July 1963 and July 1975 it went between both No.3 F.T.S. and 26 Squadron at Wyton. On 12th August 1975 it went to BAC Ltd. at Warton for conversion to T.3A status and was reflown on 29th October 1975. On 6th November 1975 it was taken on charge by No.1 Flying Training School at Linton on Ouse. On 30th July 1981 the pilot ejected near Snainton when the engine flamed out. The aircraft crashed and Cat.5/FA damage was the damage assessment but it must have remained reasonably intact because on 17th August 1981 the remains at Linton on Ouse were converted to Ground Instructional Airframe 8704M. In 1986 it was with the RAF Exhibition Flight at Abingdon but in September 1987 it was scrapped though the nose was retained at R.A.F.C. Cranwell.
