Jet Provost T.3 XM371 at Leeming airfield.

On 31st July 1962 Jet Provost XM371 of No.3 Flying Training School overran on landing at Leeming airfield. It sustained repairable Cat.3R damage and was repaired on site.

Jet Provost XM371 was built to contract 6/ACFT/14157 by Hunting Percival Ltd. at Luton and was awaiting collection on 30th September 1959. It was flown to 5 MU at Kemble on 1st October 1959. It was initially taken on charge by No.2 Flying Training School at Syerston but the date it arrived is not known. On 9th February 1961 it was damaged in mid-air collision with Jet Provost XM402 but the pilot was able to land safely and it was repaired on site by 60 MU between. It returned to 2 F.T.S. charge in April 1961 then on 1st December 1961 it was transferred to No.3 Flying Training School at Leeming. On 31st July 1962 it was damaged at Leeming. Cat.3R damage was the damage assessment and it was repaired on site, being returned to 3 F.T.S. charge once servicable. In 1975 it was placed into storage at Leeming. On 10th June 1975 it went to BAC Ltd. at Warton for conversion to T.3A status. On 12th September 1975 it was re-flown and on 24th September 1975 it went to 19 MU at St. Athan. On 2nd December 1975 it was taken on charge by the Central Flying School at Little Rissington. On 12th April 1976 it went to R.A.F.C. / C.F.S. at Cranwell. On 17th August 1977 it went to the Central Flying School at Leeming. On 2nd December 1985 it went to the Central Flying School at Scampton. On 27th April 1988 it was converted to Ground Instructional Airframe 8962M then on 18th June 1988 it went to No.1 School of Technical Training at Halton. In March 1992 it was sold to Pounds Marine Shipping Ltd and was shipped to the USA. It was then registered on the US civilian registered as N4427Q, initially to Barry Simpson Sales at Colorado Springs and then in April 1993 to Charles B. Simpson at Colorado Springs. The aircraft is believed still airworthy and owned by the Western Sky Aviation Museum Inc. at St. George, Utah.
