Anson C.19 VM388 at Leconfield airfield.

On 14th November 1961 Anson VM388, of Station Flight Leconfield, sustained minor damage in a ground accident at Leconfield airfield. What occurred is unknown.


Anson VM388 was built to contract ACFT/5680 by A.V.Roe and Company Ltd. at Yeadon. On 7th July 1947 it was flown by No.4 Ferry Pool to 48 MU at Hawarden where it appears to have been stored. On 15th September 1950 it was taken on charge by No.4 Ferry Pool at Hawarden. On 5th October 1951 it went to 22 MU at Silloth and on 7th June 1952 it went back to No.4 Ferry Pool at Hawarden. On 1st February 1953 it was taken on charge by 173 Squadron at Hawarden. On 14th October 1955 it was transferred to 187 Squadron at Aston Down. On 29th January 1957 it sustained unspecified Cat.3 damage at Aston Down that would have seen a repair on site. On 19th August 1957 it was transferred to Ferry Support Squadron at Benson. On 5th September 1957 it was transferred to Station flight at Benson. On 4th October 1957 it went to 20 MU at Aston Down. On 21st April 1958 it was taken on charge by 64 Group Communications Flight at Rufforth. On 19th December 1958 it went to Home Command Communications Squadron at White Waltham. It later went to 23 MU at Aldergrove and on 8th September 1961 it was taken on charge by Station Flight at Leconfield where a Cat.3 damage assessment was made against it on 14th November 1961. On 14th February 1962 it went to 27 MU at Shawbury. On 22nd June 1962 it went to 38 Group Communications Flight at Odiham and on 12th June 1963 it force landed on a beach at Cherbourg, France owing to fog on a flight over France. It must have been damaged or the tide came in as on 18th June 1963 it was struck off charge.
