Miles M.38 Messenger G-ALAP near Barkisland.
The pilot of this aircraft had earlier landed at the Ringstone gliding site at Barkisland, near Halifax so that he could attend a business meeting at Rishworth Mills Ltd. When it came to then taking off from the site on Wednesday, 24th May 1961 the field that was too short to allow the aircraft to gain enough height to clear a stone wall. The aircraft hit the three feet high wall and crashed. The pilot, who was from How Green, Hertfordshire, escaped with a bruised eye and other cuts and bruises. The aircraft was owned by Finch and Knight Ltd, of Waltham Abbey, Essex. It was subsequently written off after this crash in May 1961.

The pilot may well have been Dennis Effrain Nahum. On 20th July 1939 he was being given a flight for air experience in Blenheim L8368 while a school boy at Oundle School when a collision with another Blenheim occurred. The pilot pushed him out of the aircraft and he survived a parachute descent. The pilot sadly died.
