Unidentified Anson deliberately burnt at Leeming airfield.
The 228 Operational Conversion Unit record book records that on 24th March 1960 a simulated aircraft crash fire was practiced at Leeming airfield. An old Anson fuselage was saturated with used engine oil and dirty fuel and set on fire. Various airfield vehicles and personel took part in putting the fire out and undertaking a cockpit rescue. Where the Anson had come from is not known.
It may have been Anson WJ514 which had crashed at Leeming on 23rd September 1959 and while it was struck off charge, the fuselage probably escaped significant damage.
