Meteor T.7 WL481 at Burshill, Brandesburton.

Exactly why this aircraft was over East Yorkshire is unclear and the unit to which it belonged was based at Manby, Linconlshire though by this stage jet aircraft may also have been using Strubby as well. On 3rd June 1959 the crew of this RAF Flying College aircraft were undertaking a flight over East Yorkshire when the controls that operated the elevators failed. The two crew abandoned the aircraft at 15,000 feet having first pointed the jet out to sea but after they left it turned around. The aircraft crashed near Burshill, in the Brandesburton area. Where the two airmen landed is unclear but both were picked up by a Whirlwind helicopter from Leconfield within minutes of baling out and were taken back to Leconfield.
