Vampire T.11 XD609 near Wawne.

On 19th January 1956 the pilot of this Fighter Weapons School aircraft was based at Leconfield and was flying over East Yorkshire when the engine failed. The pilot ejected and landed safely around two miles from where the aircraft eventually crashed near Wawne.

Pilot - S/Ldr Philip Richard Robinson OBE RAF (47115).

Philip Robinson was awarded the US Air Medal, Gazetted on 24th July 1945 and later an OBE in the New Years honours list 1956.
