Meteor F.8 WL138 at Cawood.

On 4th June 1956 the pilot of this 19 Squadron aircraft was returning to land at Church Fenton airfield when the starboard engine failed on the approach and while making a turn downwind of the airfield. He opted to make a belly landing two miles short of airfield. The incident was recorded in newspaper reports at the time. It came to rest in a turnip field around a hundred yeards from what were then council houses on the Bishopdyke Road at Cawood. This must have been in the field to the west of the council estate on Bishopdyke Road as local people climbed over their garden fences to go to the aircraft to find the pilot stood beside it.
