The 228 Operational Conversion Unit record book gives the following information, but without an exact date, that in February 1956 this 228 Operational Conversion Unit aircraft ran off the the runway while taking off at Leeming airfield. The starboard wing fuel tank struck a marker flag which pierced the tank but the pilot was able to get the aircraft into the air. He then jettisoned the wing droptanks and landed at Leeming but then overshot the airfield and sustained further damage.
