Unidentified Vampire at Clifton airfield.

This incident is mentioned in a book on Clifton airfield that I was leant many years ago and while I take the information in good faith I have not checked it for accuracy with source documents. Stated to been "the last" military aircraft to land at Clifton airfield on an unknown date in 1956 a student pilot flying an unidentified Vampire mistook York Minster for that of Lincoln Cathedral, and as a result confused Clifton airfield for that of his home base of Swinderby airfield. No.8 Flying Training School was based at Swinderby at this time so was presumably one of their aircraft. By this date Clifton airfield had become disused and a wire fence was erected across it dividing the land up between two farmers. The pilot landed the aircraft on the main runway but upon seeing that a fence now crossed the runway, he was forced to pull up and jump the aircraft over this fence. He did this without damaging the aircraft. The plane was later refuelled and he managed to take off on an old taxi track near where a gypsy travelling site was later located, between Green Lane and Water Lane. He returned to his home airfield without further incident.

Pilot - Name unknown.

I question the information because on 2nd November 1959 at No.1 Flying Training School aircraft was slightly damaged on landing at Clifton airfield and No.1 F.T.S. was based at Linton on Ouse. This was Provost XF889. Information located in their record book.
