Meteor F.8 WK680 damaged in the air, landed at Carnaby airfield.

On 8th May 1954 this 616 Squadron aircraft was being flown on a low level training exercise when the canopy was shattered after a bird strike. The pilot sustained injuries to his neck. He was able to land normally at Carnaby airfield. The damaged aircraft was repaired.

Pilot - F/Lt Bob Jones DSO RAF (182962). Injured.


Bob Jones was awarded the DSO for service with 15 Squadron, Gazetted on 2nd February 1945. He was killed on 29th March 1955 while test flying a Rolls Royce Lancaster when it crashed near Hucknall.
