Meteor T.7 WG990 damaged in the air, (possibly) landed at Finningley airfield.

No.215 Advanced Flying School ceased flying training on 21st April 1954 and the airfield was in the process of closing down after this date prior to the runways being rebuilt and extended. The unit record book states on 29th April 1954 this aircraft sufferd the port engine nacelle bottom rear access door becoming detached in flight. The aircraft then landed normally but where is not stated. Given the unit was winding down it is likely that it was being flown out at the time of this incident. Depending on where the door became detached would depending where the pilot ended up landing. If it occurred soon after taking off he may have returned to Finningley to land. Faulty servicing was suspected.

Pilot - F/Lt Albert John Watton DFC RAF (121076).
