On an unknown date during March 1954 this 228 Operational Conversion Unit aircraft suffered minor damage owing to flying into a flock of birds during a formation flying exercise. The staff pilot went on to land normally at Leeming airfield. The date is not stated in the unit records. The unit records identifty the aircraft as "WD260" but this serial number was allocated to a Valetta and 228 OCU did not have Valettas in July 1954, the unit operated flights involving mainly Meteors, it flew 1338 hours of Meteor flights, and a handful of Oxford, Tiger Moth and Mosquito flights. I offer the suggestion that it was Meteor WD760 which was an NF.11 variant that they used.
