Meteor F.4 VT215 at Driffield airfield.

On 21st December 1954 this No.8 Flying Training School aircraft was flown on a circuits and landings exercise at Driffield airfield. While making a roller landing the pilot opened the throttle controls to apply power to take off but as he did so the starboard engine disintergrated. Parts were thrown through the engine nacelle and the fuselage. He could not then stop the aircraft in the remaining space left on the runway and it ran into the overshoot area. The aircraft must have been fairly badly damaged though was initially assessed as being repairable but at a later stage it was re-assessed and upgraded to Re.Cat.5 which saw the aircraft written off.

Pilot - P/O Basil Roland Bradshaw RAF (4100246).
