Unidentified Meteor at Neasham airfield.

This info is from the 275 Squadron record book which states that a Meteor "blew up" on take off at Neasham airfield on 7th August 1954 and an important piece of engine wreckage was lost in a field of growing corn. At the request of Middleton St.George, F/Lt J M Hamilton (who was the ORB scribe of 205 AFS) in a Hiller helicopter searched on 11th August 1954 and recovered the item after five minutes searching without damage to the crops.

What the incident on 7th August 1954 involved to what must have been a No.4 Flying Training School aircraft, and probably a Meteor, is unclear. There were no written off aircraft from this unit on this date. It suggests it was more like an engine exploding.
