On 17th July 1953 this 228 Operational Conversion Unit aircraft was being flown by a student at night in poor visibility when he undershot a landing at Leeming airfield. The aircraft touched down in the undershoot area short of the runway and the port undercarriage broke off. A fire broke out in the port mainplane which was quickly dealt with by the crash team.
