Meteor T.7 WL362 near Rudston.

On 10th June 1953 this 203 Advanced Flying School aircraft left Driffield with the crew due to undertake a training flight. While flight at 12,000 feet over the Yorkshire Wolds the aircraft first stalled and then got into an inverted spin from which the pilots were unable to recover. Both pilots abandoned the aircraft. It went on to crash and explode in a seventy acre barley field on land farmed by Denby Farm, and near to Field House Farm, both around a mile west of Rudston. The two pilots landed around a mile from each other. The pupil landed near Kilham Grange while the instructor landed near Manor Farm, Kilham. It did not crash at Huggate Wold as is quoted elsewhere on the internet. Local newspaper reports confirm this. The instructor is named in newspapers as "Ebenson" but no one ever served in the RAF with this name.

Instructor Pilot - F/O T "Ebenson". (Possibly F/O Thomas Edward Benson RAF (2455931)).

Pupil Pilot - P/O Bryan Leonard Earl Irvine RAF (3511208).
