On 3rd May 1953 this 616 Squadron aircraft was flown on an air to ground firing exercise on the Skipsea ranges and while returning to base at 3,000 feet the canopy disintergrated. The pilot went on to make a normal landing back at Finningley airfield where the unit was based and it was repaired. An investigation found that the cause was already known but a modification had yet to be incorporated to this aircraft.
Pilot - F/Lt Bob Jones DSO RAF (182962).
