An inspection of this No.616 Squadron aircraft was carried out at Finningley airfield on 2nd May 1953 and an engine nacelle was found to be damaged, possibly after ricochet during an air to ground firing exercise. A Cat.3R damage assessment was made and it was repaired on site by a team from No.60 Maintenance Unit with it listed as being complete in July 1953.
The squadron records do not not specfically mention this incident or any damage to any of their aircraft but they do mention the squadron undertook air to ground firing exercises at the Skipsea range duing May 1953. It seems highly likely that this damage occurred there.
