On 11th September 1953 this 228 Operational Conversion Unit aircraft suffered the starboard main tyre burst on take off from Leeming airfield. A fire broke out and the pilot abandoned the take off. The crash crew but the fire out but the aircraft received minor damage. The pilot was a staff pilot rather than a student.
