On 21st September 1953 this 228 Operational Conversion Unit aircraft was mid way through taking off from Leeming airfield when the tread on the port main wheels came off at speed. The wheel bay sustained some damage but the pilot appears to have abandoned the take off and stopped on the runway. It was repaired on site by 60 MU and was noted as servicable in December 1953.
