Meteor NF.11 (WD609?) damaged in the air, landed at Leeming airfield.

On 29th September 1953 this 228 Operational Conversion Unit aircraft was being flown on a training flight when, while making a steep turn in cloud the aircraft flicked and came out of cloud inverted. The pilot was able to regain control and return to level flight but in doing so both wing drop tanks were pulled off their mountings. The pilot went on to land normally at Leeming airfield and an inspection found that the starboard wing was slightly damaged. Where both drop tanks landed is not known. The aircraft was probably Meteor WD609 which the unit record book lists as having had a Cat.2 damage assessment made against it shortly after this date.
