Vampire FB.5 VV624 at Leconfield airfield.

On 5th May 1953 this Central Gunnery School aircraft struck a pig on the runway at Leconfield airfield while landing at night. The unit's orb states that damage was sustained to the flap and undercarriage (presumably of the aircraft not the pig). The fate, the name and why the pig was on the airfield is not known. Surely there is a joke to be made about flying pigs.

Pilot - F/Sgt Garlick.

Pig - Name unknown.
