Lincoln B.2 RF448 at Lindholme airfield.

On 7th January 1953 this Bomber Command Bombing School aircraft was flown on a blind bombing training exercise but the radar failed so they made an early return to land at Lindholme airfield on Runway 05. The approach to land at 11.45hrs was slightly low and at the moment it passed a public road next to the airfield a civilian car was driving past. The aircraft's port wheel hit the roof of the car which was torn off and was carried away, being then dislodged when the aircraft landed on the runway. The aircraft was not damaged and landed normally. Unfortunately a passenger in the car was killed while two other civilians (her husband and daughter) in the car were injured. It was later stated that the Ministry of Transport should have installed traffic lights to have prevented this type of accident occurring but there had been a delay in obtaining the traffic lights required.
