On Sunday, 15th March 1953 the pilot of this 215 Advanced Flying School aircraft was undertaking an aerobatics training exercise in the area north of Finningley airfield from where the aircraft was based. Unfortunately another pilot of the same unit appears to have been undertaking a similar training exercise in the same area and during which Meteor RA448 and the other aircraft, Meteor VW262, collided. The port engine of RA448 failed and the pilot initially lost control. He was able to regain control and attempted to fly back to Finningley but on the way back the starboard engine then failed. The pilot had the height to glide back to Finningley and made a landing with the undercarriage retracted on the airfield.
The pilot of Meteor VW262 ejected and left the aircraft to crash near South Dale Farm, Alkborough, Lincolnshire, the pilot landed in the water at the mouth of the River Ouse / Trent / Humber and was rescued by a passing fishing vessel.
