On an unknown date during August 1953 this unidentified 228 Operational Conversion Unit aircraft was flown on a training exercise at high altitude. During a controlled descent the canopy opened at 18,000 feet above the ground and locked open. The pilot managed to land normally, probably back at Leeming airfield where the unit was based, but minor damage to the aircraft found to have occurred. The unit record book scribe made a poor job of detailing flying accidents during this period. I have yet to search through accident records at the RAF Museum for additional information.
