Unidentified Meteor damaged in the air, landed at Finningley airfield.

On Sunday, 4th October 1953 this 616 Squadron aircraft was being flown from Leuchars to Finningley airfield when it hit a bird in flight. A large hole was created in the leading edge of the starboard outer wing but the pilot was able to land at Finningley without further incident.

Bob Jones was awarded the DSO for service with 15 Squadron, Gazetted on 2nd February 1945. He was killed on 29th March 1955 while test flying a Rolls Royce Lancaster when it crashed near Hucknall.
