Meteor T.7 WL465 or WL466 at Finningley airfield.

This information needs to be verified to work out which aircraft sustained the damage. I have come across basic references that list this incident as having occurred to Meteor WL465 and also to Meteor WL466 with a day of one another. Only one of the incidents will be correct but which one I am not yet sure. Both WL465 and WL466 were new aircraft at the time and were in the care of No.2 Home Ferry Unit (based at Aston Down) possibly being ferried toward No.211 Advanced Flying School at Worksop. WL465 is listed as being damaged on the delivery flight at Finningley on 4th October 1952 while WL466 is listed as being damaged on 3rd October 1952. The aircraft sank on take off and after the pilot had retraced the undercarriage legs. Both engine nacelles were damaged.

Which ever aircraft was involved it was repaired. WL465 lasted in the RAF until 1962 while WL466 was sold to the Israeli Air Force in 1955 and still exists in a museum in Isreal.
