Meteor T.7 WH240 damaged in the air, landed at Leeming airfield.

On 9th December 1952 this 228 Operational Conversion Unit aircraft was damaged. The damage was assessed as being repairable by Glosters but the damage was later upgraded to Re-Cat.5c and was struck off charge on 15th May 1953. This incident appears to link to an incident recorded in the unit records that state during a flight during December 1952 a 228 Operational Conversion Unit aircraft had an air bottle attached to the pneumatic system exploded causing damage to the fuselage and the control cables. The pilot managed to get the aircraft back to land at Leeming airfield but the brakes were not working and it overshot the runway.

Pilot - Name unknown.

The 228 O.C.U. record book is very specific in stating that NO accidents occurred during November 1952 and that WH240 was damaged in December 1952. Elsewhere on the internet it is claimed that WH240 was damaged on 9th November 1952, this must be an error.
