On 1st September 1952 this 228 Operational Conversion Unit aircraft was in the process of taking off from Leeming airfield when the pilot found that the controls were obstructed and he did not have full control. He attempted to abandon the take off but the aircraft overshot. A crash then occurred and the aircraft was eventually destroyed by fire. The obstruction was a loose CO2 bottle that had become jammed under the seat pan and restricted the control column's full movement.
