On an unknown date in October 1952 this 228 Operational Conversion Unit aircraft suffered an engine failure soon after taking off from Leeming airfield. The pilot jettisoned the ventral drop tank and then went on to make a single engined landing at Dishforth airfield. Where the drop tank landed is not known. This aircraft was lost off Sunderland the following month.
