Auster AOP.6 VW997.

This incident involved a 664 Squadron aircraft and while the unit was based at Hucknall it was operated by one of the flights, No.1964 Flight and was based at Yeadon at the time. On Thursday, 1st May 1952 the aircraft landed on an airstrip in Yorkshire with the handbrake on. It subsequently tipped on to it's nose and the pilot was injured. Where the incident occurred is not known although elsewhere on the internet Yeadon airfield is quoted.

A Cat.4R damage assessment was made and it was sent to Auster Aircraft Ltd at Rearsby for a repair in works on 12th May 1952 but was later declared beyond economic repair. It was struck off charge on 2nd July 1952.

Passenger - Name unknown. Uninjured.
