Meteor T.7 VW422 at Driffield airfield.

On 15th July 1952 this 203 Advanced Flying School aircraft suffered an engine flame out while on a flight. On the approach to land the aircraft's undercarriage also had a problem so the pilot made a belly landing on the grass next to the runway at Driffield. The damage was initially assessed as Cat.3R but some time later on 22nd October 1952 this was upgraded to Re.Cat.4R and it was despatched to Gloster Aircraft Ltd for a repair in works.

Pilot - Name unknown.

Newspaper reports covered what was a more serious incident later in the day but mentioned an earlier incident, probably this one. The report stated thah the aircraft had a problem with one of the main undercarriage legs so the pilot eventually made a landing on the one good leg but it eventually spun around and came to rest near the corner of the airfield. Both the pilot and passenger were uninjured.
