Meteor T.7 VW422 at Driffield airfield.

On 15th July 1952 this aircraft suffered an engine flame out while on a flight. On the approach to land the aircraft's undercarriage also had a problem so the pilot made a belly landing on the grass next to the runway at Driffield. The damage was later repaired. The aircraft appears to have been on charge with 226 Operational Conversion Unit and was based at Stradishall.

Pilot - Name unknown.

Newspaper reports covered what was a more serious incident later in the day but mentioned an earlier incident, probably this one. The report stated thah the aircraft had a problem with one of the main undercarriage legs so the pilot eventually made a landing on the one good leg but it eventually spun around and came to rest near the corner of the airfield. Both the pilot and passenger were uninjured.
