Prentice T.1 VS279 at Leconfield airfield.

On 22nd January 1952 this aircraft was landed at Leconfield airfield and damaged an engine cowling. The incident is listed in the Central Gunnery School record book which identifies the aircraft as being from Cranwell and as "Prentice JS279". JS279 was a Hurricane. There was a Prentice with the serial VS279 which seems the likely identity but this does not appear to have been at Cranwell at the time of the incident. The Cranwell orb (AIR29/2108) lists six incidents during January 1952, two Prentice (VS286 and VR250) and four Harvards (FT209, FS813, KF574 and FS755) were all damaged. None fit with the damage sustained at Leconfield.

Modern records give VS279 as being with No.3 Flying Training School and based at Feltwell, not the RAF College at Cranwell.

Pilot - S/Ldr Arthur Daniel Button RAF (73118).
